"Mistaken Identity"

On Saturday I tried my hand at surfing again. As I was walking along the beach to the "surf craft" area (i.e. where the kids and beginners learn to surf and the permanent surfing grounds of lanky people such as myself), a few 16-18 year-old girls from Pittsburgh came up to me and asked, "do you mind taking a picture with us? We want one of a real Australian surfer."

My response was naturally, "well g'day. No worries, just tell me where to stand" in a fake Aussie accent. I had them going for awhile, but then admitted after the picture that I was from Georgia and couldn't really surf well (or at all) but I was learning.

One girl's response, "well you certainly look the part. We wanted someone who looked like an Australian surfer and didn't really care if you could do it or not or where you are from. We just won't tell our friends who we show the picture to." (And to answer Will's question, it was impossible to capitalize because they were with at least two of their mom's)

Good to know that I can at least walk down the beach and appear to know what I'm doing. After that conversation I jumped in the water and didn't stand up for over an hour. I drank a ton of salt-water, got frustrated and went home.

All in all, I'm not sure if that makes the surfing expedition a good one or not.
