“Do toilets really drain the opposite way?”

One of the first things that some of my friends asked me was if the toilets actually do drain the opposite way in the Southern hemisphere. The answer to that question is yes, but (not surprisingly) watching a toilet flush the opposite way is not exactly interesting.

However, there is something about toilets and restrooms that really blew me away. The urinal trough is in virtually every restroom except for office buildings, trendy clubs, and nicer restaurants. I kid you not, the restrooms underneath the Sydney Opera House are virtually the same as Wrigley Field. Yes, you read right. It would be like the NY Philharmonic having a trough the length ~30-40 feet long. As an advocate of the “trough” design for years, it’s good to know that someone has finally caught on.
