“Traveling to Australia: Business Class through Seoul”

One of the best perks of the transfer was that I was able to fly business class instead of coach. My itinerary took me on Korean Air from Atlanta to Seoul and then to Sydney. The service and food was incredible and was clearly better than first-class domestic, let alone coach.

At times, it seemed like there were four different flight attendants who were only responsible for me. Anytime I needed anything, they were immediately there to get whatever I needed. Each meal had 3-4 courses, and the food was actually good. I ordered the traditional Korean dishes, and the beef short ribs were just as good as any upscale Korean or Chinese restaurant.

The seats themselves were incredibly spacious, and my window seat had actual “lockers” right next to them. I was able to stash my carry-on luggage there as opposed to the overhead bin. The seats reclined to 165 degrees, which seems like it’s about flat. Those 15 degrees make it not close to flat. The angle is just enough to make me start to gradually slide down the seat when it was fully reclined. Trust me though, that didn’t stop me from sleeping at all. I took a long nap on each flight for about 14 hours of the total flight time.

Even with a substantial amount of sleep, the flight was long. I knew that getting to Sydney was a haul, but 27 total hours of flying actually feels like closer to 40 hours.

The layover in Seoul was far from a cultural experience. Unfortunately, the airport was similar to any other airport and was far away from the city, so I couldn’t even see anything from the window. I’m still counting it as visiting the country (and I know that many will debate whether I actually ‘visited’ since I didn’t step outside of the airport and only spent 2 hours there).
